Getting Back into the Swing of Things

Posted on September 11, 2015November 24, 2020 By Detecting Diva 4 Comments on Getting Back into the Swing of Things

yankee logoI moved a few months back, and since then, have been trying to make the monthly meeting of my new local metal detecting club. Something always seemed to interfere with my plans, but finally, Wednesday night, I was able to attend, and join “The Yankee Territory Coin Shooters” in Wethersfield, CT.

It’s been a long time since I’ve attended a metal detecting club meeting. I used to love to go to club meetings, see all the cool stuff people found, and discuss digging in the dirt with people who can actually relate, (and don’t roll their eyes).  Some of my fondest & funniest metal detecting memories and friendships were made through clubs and on club hunts, with people I met through these affiliations.

One nice part about the meeting was its location–a mere 8 miles from my home. Even though our hobby is steadily growing, it can still be difficult to find a local club.  I’m used to travelling up to an hour or more to a meeting, so this one gets huge bonus points for location.

It was not the typical metal detecting club meeting that I’m used to.  It was pretty formal and structured, which I did not expect, but it was fun, entertaining and informative just the same.

They had a presentation of YouTube videos featuring some local detectorists, and gave out awards for the best find in different categories, which was nice.  I liked that as each person accepted their award, they related a little bit about where, and when they found it.  It kept things interesting.

I was happy to see some familiar faces, check out what folks have been finding, laugh a bit, and basically get myself back into the swing again.  Moving can be difficult, and although I didn’t move to another state, its far enough away that nothing is familiar to me, so it was nice to be around the familiar again.

I’m looking forward to the next meeting, and some good times and hunts with some new friends.

If you live in Connecticut, or the general area, The Yankee Territory Coinshooters usually meet at 6:30pm on the second Wednesday of the month at the William J. Pitkin Community Center, 30 Greenfield Street, Wethersfield, CT.  You can check out their website at:  http://www.yankeeterritorycoinshooters.com/

Happy Hunting!

I did live in Orlando for a while back in the 90’s, but I hated it (too hot), and moved back East quickly. Now I can’t take the cold and dream of living somewhere warm.

I am so glad to hear you have joined one of the best metal detecting clubs. My late husband Jack and I and a few others started this club many years ago and I was an officer until I moved here to the cape. Enjoy the outing and I should see you at the Jack Hube Polar Bear Hunt next year (maybe in the snow. Eleanor finder of lost jewelry

I was just thinking of you Eleanor! I thought the club was great, and I do remember you saying you were one of the founding members. Looking forward to some good times, and will stop by next time I’m up on the Cape. Keep on finding those rings!
